Cup 2006 where Ghana knocked the US out of the group stages. Carlos Bocanegra, Landon Donovan, Steve Cherundolo and Clint Dempsey are just four of the US players that will specifically remember the disappointing loss four years ago.
USA:
Revenge will only add to the motivation for the United States as they look to prove their rising status in world football. The US was 2 minutes away from being sent home when Landon Donovan slotted in the injury time winner to see the United States deservingly go through to the knockout stages. The vuvuzelas however, hopefully drowned out the boos for Jonathan Bornstein as he was subbed in for Oguchi Onyewu. The former striker has been criticized for his lack of concentration and lackluster tackles.
Tim Howard provides a calming presence that puts any defense at ease. Timmy very rarely makes a mistake and will need to continue his run for the United States to have a shot at the quarterfinals. Watch out for his deadly accurate throws which set up the US goal in injury time changing modern day soccer as we know it. Donovan who has more than proved his talent as a world class player, will need another good game if the US wants to advance.
LIVE SOCCER STREAMGhana:
Despite Ghana’s struggling economy, not only the entire nation, but a whole continent will be behind the Black Stars on Saturday. Ghana represents Africa’s last hope in World Cup 2010 to shine on home soil. Ghana will remember knocking the United States out of Germany in 2006. Ghana’s bad boy Kevin-Prince Boateng will need to step up (without breaking any ankles) for Ghana to have a good game.
Michael Essien’s absence is obviously a big loss, but the boys are certainly making the Chelsea superstar proud.
