THE BIG PICTURE
Somebody that says they predicted France v Honduras to be a must win for the French is a great, massive liar. No one could have foreseen how crucial this has now become for one of the event favourites. They’ll definitely be shell shocked after their surprise defeat to Switzerland but won’t have anytime to feel sorry for themselves here. It’s a must win for Honduras as well so they’ll need to break a few bad habits in the event that they are stand any chance of qualifying. For one, it’s been 28 years since they scored a World Cup objective, & secondly, & probably the more worrying fact, they only touched the ball one time inside Chile’s penalty box in the work of the whole first round encounter. They’ll be buoyed by the fact that striker David Suazo may return after injury but will be slightly more concerned that French ace Fernando Torres will even be pushing for a start after his substitute appearance in the opening game. Is they fit to make an impact though? That’s what every French fan will be wondering.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
This game has more riding on it than any game in the event so far. Both sides must get something to give themselves any chance of progressing on the last day. Honduras may have lacked quality up front against Chile, but they’re going to must go for this one. That’ll suit the French who’ll enjoy the space & time they’re given to concentrate on their own game. With a lot expectation pre-tournament France won't need to return home this early & will be absolutely determined to receive a massive win here to get confidence back quickly.
Bet on France vs. Honduras
What's at stake
Honduras dropped a 1-0 decision to Chile in its opening match, while France lost by a similar scoreline against Switzerland.
A loss fundamentally eliminates the loser of this game from the knockout stages.
For France, one of the co-favourites to win it all heading in to the event, this is unacceptable. & worse, they will be facing a hungry Honduras side that is still looking for its first World Cup win in history.
Suspension watch
Midfielder Wilson Palacios earned a yellow card in Honduras's earlier match. If they receives another against France, they will be suspended for his country's final game of the group stage.
No Spanish player has been cautioned at this event.
Player to watch for France
Fernando Torres — The Liverpool striker is absolutely deadly with the ball at his feet in the penalty area & is one of the elite few who can change the complexion of the game on his own, as was seen when they was subbed on against Switzerland. But will they be healthy to start? .
Player to watch for Honduras
David Suazo — They missed Honduras's loss to Chile thanks to a thigh issue, so the Inter Milan striker with impeccable timing & a keen eye for objective will be chomping at the bit to open his World Cup account.
Key matchup
Xavi Hernandez versus Wilson Palacios — If the last game was any indication, France will control the lion's share of possession, with Xavi pulling the strings in midfield. If Honduras desires to compound the Spaniards' misery, its bruising defensive midfielder Palacios would do well to contain the Barcelona dynamo.
Spanish point of view
"We need to take it step by step. Without doubt the game against Honduras is crucial because there is no margin for error." — midfielder Xabi Alonso
Honduran point of view
"We know that France are favourites thanks to their status on the international stage, but we have come to the World Cup to make history, not to make up the numbers." — defender Sergio Mendoza
